Horticulture Project Proposal Template

I, [NAME], have been working with scientists at XYZ laboratory for four years. After completing my post-graduation from [X] University, I decided to choose research as a career instead of teaching as I always wanted to explore more, and plants are my favorite to do research on. XYZ laboratory conducts various research on different plants and seeks to know their potential in different fields such as medicine, fruits, ornaments, and others.

Plants have always proved to be beneficial in more than one way as their fruits can be used for eating, wood for furniture, and other medicinal purposes. This research is carried out by highly qualified scientists, and they always strive to make it a better place.

Research at XYZ mostly includes the growing phase of the plant on a smaller scale and conducting various experiments to find out results. These experiments are performed after thorough research and viewing literature which guides the scientists in the right direction. Some of these experiments include the application of chemicals while others may require the change of physical attributes to enhance their production or an important constituent.

For instance, plants are grown in a differing environment of temperature, pressure, oxygen level, and light availability, either to examine their threshold level or to increase their productivity.

During my research, I have ways been interested in the field of horticulture, a sub-division of agriculture. It also includes research on plants with different attributes and I want to pursue this field as my next venture.

I have designed a proposal for the horticulture project that focuses on developing and improving the techniques involved. Kindly consider my proposal and grant me permission to take it to next level.

Eagerly awaiting your reply.

Introduction

Horticulture is the science of developing, producing, and use of high-quality plants. These plants have medicinal value and can also be used for decor. In addition, plants are also propagated and cultivated for improvement in growth, production, nutritional content, resistance to environmental stresses, insects, and other diseases.

There is a vast majority of plants that are under the umbrella of horticulture and include fruits, vegetables, landscape plants, decorative plants, and others. Moreover, research is conducted for conserving plants, landscape restoration, soil management, and maintenance.

It is a sub-division of agriculture and works in the same manner, but it is more focused on farming plants and evaluating their uses without including animal farming which is included in agriculture. In addition, a major difference among the two is that agriculture is done in bulk under general atmospheric conditions whereas horticulture cultivation requires special conditions for growth and development.

Research and studies in the field of horticulture can be traced back to thousands of years and it is generally believed that horticulture played a significant role in transitioning nomadic life to a semi-sedentary or sedentary lifestyle. This field is further divided into several categories which focus on the growth and development of different types of plants that are an important part of food or ornaments.

The field of agriculture needs more attention in terms of research and funding as it is a massive field with numerous categories. With the advancement in technology, new ventures can be set up to determine the underlying potential of plants. The sole project of horticulture will open ways of new techniques and contribute greatly towards research.

Division

The field of horticulture is further divided into many fields to focus on propagation and cultivation in an organized manner. These divisions include:

  1. Pomology is the processing, cultivation, storing, and marketing of fruit and nut crops. Some of the examples of pomology include almonds, pecans, peaches, raspberries, blueberries, etc.
  2. Olericulture: this category of horticulture deals with the cultivation of vegetable crops such as tomatoes, sweet corn, and lettuce.
  3. Floriculture: is the branch of ornamental horticulture and deals in the propagation and use of potted plants, flowers, and annual bedding plants. This branch includes petunias and carnations.
  4. Landscape horticulture: includes the production and use of plants that beautify the outdoor environment and assist in conserving endangered species. Peonies, maple, and oaks are common landscape plants.

Objectives

Presenting a new project is easy as it is based on knowledge and experience gained over the years but setting up and fulfilling all requirements of conducting research can be very difficult. Objectives decided for setting up the project are mentioned below:

  • Renting a laboratory for setting up the essentials and starting the research
  • Hiring scientists of the following field to progress the project in the right direction
  • Buying high-quality equipment to perform experiments
  • Ordering seeds and plants for performing research
  • Hiring staff to work around the laboratory such as performing administrative, cleaning, and managing tasks
  • Composing emails and inviting other scientists from foreign countries to collaborate
  • Working to contribute towards the research and making effective progress

Significance

Every project has its positive and negative points and the phenomenon 9f research is not easy as it takes a lot of hard work and determination but does not provide results due to various factors. But research in the following field can prove to be significant in the following ways

  • Agriculture or specifically horticulture contributes to the food available for mankind and thus, it is important to work in this field
  • Research on plants conservation allows us to take care of species and prevent them from becoming extinct
  • The nutritional content of my eatable plants is decreasing due to fewer amount nutrients provided by the soul therefore, it is important to improve the nutritional value of food
  • Improving existing plants can help in conserving landscapes to their original state
  • Resistant plants can be very useful and prevent damage greatly as much of the fields are affected due to insect attacks
  • Ornamental plants can contribute to the economy because of their appearance they are liked by plant lovers
